Fauna Quest for the Evergreen Tree chapter 1

Fauna, The quest for the Evergreen Tree.
Chapter 1

Through the foliage of the trees, you could barely make out a tall girl with long hair streaming down from a braided crown. Her hair was chestnut and her eyes were a solid brown. Stone face with beautifully carved features but her face showed no expression. Only watching always watching, waiting. Slowly she rose and her expression furrowed. In front of her, a giant stood 10 feet tall and ripped with muscles and blood running down from his big bulging purple lips. Light as a feather she raced across the leafy forest floor not making a sound. She climbed a tree with lightning speed and pulled out a birch wood bow, and some sharp smooth arrows from her quiver. She didn't want to kill the beast, only scare it away from ruining another elven village. She knocked her arrow and let it fly. It soared and shot through the tip of the giant's ear. The giant screamed in pain and ran toward the mountains. The forest shook and Fauna flipped onto a low hanging branch. A branch snapped behind Fauna, and her ear twitched toward it.
“Greetings Willow.” Fauna spoke without any expression on her face. A wistful smile play at the lips of the elf, she had silver hair and eyes as blue as the sky.
“Fauna, aren't you glad to see me?” asked Willow, playing at the slightly tangled chestnut hair that flowed in front of her. Fauna turned to face the smiling Willow.
“I have no emotion for the suddenness of your presence.” Willow laughed, it was light like the jingling of wind chimes.
“Oh Fauna, always so serious. Come to the village my sister, and be merry!” Fauna scowled.
“I have no need to be merry, and I am no sister of yours. For my job is to watch for beasts.” Willow frowned.
“Fauna, no one has assigned you that job, and frankly the guards can take care of any beast that threatens our existence.”
Fauna climbed to the top of the tree with ease.
“I have assigned myself this job for the safekeeping of everyone.”
Willow sighed.
“You're Father will be upset when he realizes you're not at the celebration.”
Fauna smiled to herself, what was the point of celebrating how long they had gone without an attack. The dragons would return, and when they did, she would be ready.
“Father will survive without me. I have to keep a lookout.” Willow shook her head and jumped onto the leafy forest floor and walked back to the village. Purple dress flowing behind her.

“I hope you'll soon understand that they aren't coming back.” Fauna ignored Willow's comment and looked to the sky, no dragons. But they were coming, she could feel it.
